Licence

Font Licence

You buy a licence to use the fonts, not the fonts themselves. Every purchase comes with the Standard licence, one-off and lasting forever; add the App licence if you are building an app.

Which licence do I need?

Standard · included

Install the fonts on computers to make things: print, packaging, logos, images, video and presentations. Embed them on websites you or your clients own with @font-face, with no limit on pageviews.

App · add-on

Embed the fonts in one mobile or desktop application, on top of the Standard licence.

Payment, delivery and refunds are covered by the Terms of Sale.

A licence covers an organisation of up to 50 people. For more than that, for games, e-books or anything else not listed here, ask us and we will quote.

1. Agreement

This licence is an agreement between YK Type (“we”) and the person or organisation named as licensee on the order (“you”). By downloading, installing or using the fonts you accept it. The fonts include the font files, any updates we provide, and their documentation.

2. What you may do

  1. Use the fonts under the licences on your order, for as long as you like, in an organisation of up to 50 people.
  2. Standard, desktop: install the fonts on your organisation's computers and use them to create static outputs such as print, images, logos and video, including for your clients.
  3. Standard, web: self-host the web fonts and embed them on websites owned by you or your client, with no limit on pageviews.
  4. App: embed the fonts in one application, protected so that the font files cannot be extracted by the people who use it.
  5. Embed the fonts in PDFs and other documents where they cannot be edited or extracted.
  6. Give a copy to a printer or service provider working on your job, who may use it only for that job.

3. What you may not do

  1. Share, sell, lend or otherwise pass the font files to anyone not covered by your licence.
  2. Modify the fonts, or convert them into other formats, without our written permission. Changes to outlines for a logo are allowed.
  3. Use the fonts beyond your licences, or in an organisation of more than 50 people, without upgrading your licence.
  4. Use the fonts in a product whose main value is the fonts themselves, such as a font or lettering tool, or to train software to generate typefaces.

4. Ownership

The fonts and their designs remain ours, including the specimen fonts on this website, which are for display here only. This licence gives you rights of use and nothing more.

5. Transfer

You may transfer the licence once, in full, to another person or organisation, for example when handing a finished project to a client, provided you tell us and keep no copies.

6. Trial fonts

Trial fonts are for testing and pitching only. They may not appear in anything published, sold or used commercially.

7. Warranty and liability

We will replace faulty files. Otherwise the fonts are provided as they are, and our liability for any claim is limited to the price you paid for the licence, as far as the law allows.

8. Ending the licence

If you break these terms the licence ends and you must delete the fonts. Outputs you made while licensed may stay in use.

9. Law

This licence is governed by the laws of Japan, and the Tokyo District Court has jurisdiction over any dispute.
